Paul Hafley makes his Sunflower Festival debut in 2021. Paul was the winner of the 2020 International Clarinet Association’s Young Artist and Orchestral Competitions and was the first ever to win both competitions in the same year. Previous Festival appearances include Music Academy of the West, National Repertory Orchestra, Round Top Festival Institute and Brevard Music Center.
Mr. Hafley has performed under the baton of prominent conductors such as Alan Gilbert, James Gaffigan, Benjamin Zander, Carl St. Claire, Case Scaglione, Hugh Wolff, David Loebel, Larry Rachleff and Farkhad Khudyev and served as the Principal Clarinetist of the Corinth Symphony Orchestra from 2017-2019.
As a soloist, Paul has performed with Sinfonietta Memphis, as well as the University of Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. He was the winner of the University of Memphis Concerto Competition in 2018, a finalist in the New England Conservatory Concerto Competition in 2015 and was the winner of the San Diego Clarinet Society Competition in 2011.
Paul has studied with acclaimed clarinetists and pedagogues such as Jonathan Gunn, Michael Wayne, Yehuda Gilad, Frank Renk and Robyn Jones.
Mr. Hafley currently studies at The University of Texas at Austin with previous studies at New England Conservatory and The University of Memphis.
