María Hincapie is a Colombian flutist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is the Principal Piccolo of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, PA. A graduate of institutions in South America, North America, and Europe, María studied at the Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia, CRR Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris, France, and the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University, PA.
María was the winner of the Colombian National Competition “Serie de los Jóvenes intérpretes Banco de La República ” in 2015. Other national and international prizes include the Concerto Competition of the Medellin Philharmonic; the Duquesne University Concerto Competition; Second Place in COFFA I International Virtual Competition Piccolo Category; Finalist in the International Competition ‘ La Flauta Latinoamericana’; and the distinction of 1ère Mention à l’unanimité from CRR Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris, France.
María’s orchestral work includes appearances with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Medellín, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, Colombian Youth Philharmonic, Iberacademy de Medellín, Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, New
World Symphony Orchestra/Iberacademy, Wiener Staatsoper/Harmonia Symphony Orchestra (Hilti Foundation) side by side concert, Houston Symphony Orchestra/Filarmónica Joven de Colombia, National orchestral Institute Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Chamber
In the Summer of 2022 she will perform at the Sunflower Music Festival, KS, and as a soloist with the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, OH.
