Meet the musicians

Christopher McLaughlin

Chris McLaughlin is a tubist, educator, and composer based in the Oklahoma City metro area. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Music in Tuba Performance and a secondary emphasis in Music Composition. 

As a performer, he has regularly performed with the University of Oklahoma Wind Symphony and the University of Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra. 

As an educator, he maintains a private teaching studio in the Oklahoma City metro area and has taught masterclasses in Oklahoma as well as in Vienna, Austria. 

He is currently pursuing a masters degree in Tuba Performance at the Greenwood School of Music at Oklahoma State University. He can be heard on Illuminate and Solace, both albums recorded with the University of Oklahoma Wind Symphony. His primary tuba teachers include Alex Purdy, Brian Dobbins, Joe LeFevre, and Ryan Robinson. 

As a composer, his original compositions and arrangements have been performed by the Oklahoma Composer’s Orchestra, the University of Oklahoma Wind Symphony, the Vento Aureo Saxophone Quartet, and the University of North Texas Collevoxus Saxophone Quartet. His composition teachers include Marvin Lamb and Konstantinos Karathanasis. 

He plays on an Eastman EBC632 CC tuba and a Wessex Berg F tuba. He plays on Mercer and Barker mouthpieces.
